Digital Clamp Meters
(Clamp Meter, Amp Meter, Current Meter, Amperage Meter, Current Clamp)
Clamp Meters are used to measure amperage or current in AC circuits without having to make actual contact with the wire. The Clamp Meter is simply clamped around one of the conductors. For low current values a wire may be wrapped around the clamp several times. The resultant reading is simply then divided by the number of turns. Many modern Clamp Meters have Multimeter functions built into them making them multipurpose and reducing the amount of test equipment that need to be carried. Clamp meters do no work on DC or Direct Current although the Multimeter functions if included will.
